19 Nov The country house schools being turned into luxury mansions
I spoke to Arabella Youens in today’s Sunday Times about a trend we have noticed for properties that were once schools, being reverted back to their former glory as a luxury homes.
The educational landscape is being altered by the shift in international demand, impact of the cost of living and the black hole in the teachers pension pot. As a result some smaller schools, particularly prep schools, are struggling.
We have clients who are currently converting old schools back to residential use and, whilst they are stunning buildings, it is not a job for the faint hearted! The sheer scale of some of the buildings means costs are high and hard to control and such projects usually end up being something of a philanthropic exercise.
