I spoke to Jayne Dowle recently about the spotlight that Clarkson’s Farm has shone on the difficulties farmers have when trying to diversify their business. Local planning constraints have caused significant problems and lost revenue opportunities for Jeremy Clarkson and impacted many others without his financial resources. Whilst the recent changes in permitted development rights do simplify the planning process in some specific instances it is broadly felt that they haven’t gone far enough in order to make a wholesale change for rural businesses and the farming industry.
